Bringing People Together

"For one afternoon in January 2009, people of all ages, from countless areas of interest and many different backgrounds, came together in a Vancouver-area gymnasium to create one image that captures what 2010 Legacies Now is all about: bringing people together to create lasting legacies."

About Us

2010 Legacies Now was the first organization of its kind. We were created in 2000 to build support for Vancouver’s bid for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and ensure a stronger sport system in British Columbia. In 2004, we expanded our work to focus on developing community legacies leading up, during and beyond the 2010 Winter Games.

As a not-for-profit organization, 2010 Legacies Now aimed to strengthen sport and recreation, healthy living, literacy, accessibility and volunteerism, using and inclusive approach. We found innovative ways to work with over 4,000 organizations and groups across the province in our quest to see all BC communities discovering and creating lasting legacies leading up to 2010 and beyond.

Our Vision

To create sustainable legacies that will benefit all British Columbians as a result of hosting the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Our Mission

To work in partnership with community organizations, non-government organizations, the private sector and all levels of government to develop sustainable legacies in sport and recreation, healthy living, arts, literacy, accessibility and volunteerism.

To actively assist communities to discover and create unique and inclusive social and economic opportunities leading up to and beyond the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Our Values

At 2010 Legacies Now, we closely consider how we work together, and how we work with our partners and communities throughout BC. We carried out an organization-wide effort to identify the values that best represent our aspirations and our conduct as a diverse group of people working together, toward common goals. Below is a list of our values, which we strive to incorporate into all we do.

Trust and Respect
We treat others as we wish to be treated, with respect and appreciation of individual, cultural and historical diversity. We strive to communicate openly, honestly and in a timely manner. We fulfill our commitments, always doing what we say we will do. We seek to listen to each other and empower one another to work to the best of our abilities.
Innovation and Creativity
We are catalysts for change. We constantly redefine what collaboration can mean and how it can work. We encourage one another to think outside the box, and we listen to and respect new ideas for conducting our work.
Collaboration and Teamwork
We embrace teamwork in everything we do. We constantly look for opportunities to work in partnership, both internally among our departments and externally with organizations and individuals throughout BC. We work together towards our common goals and seek to deliver beyond expectations, both our own and those of others.
We believe in recognizing individual and organizational accomplishments, both big and small. We acknowledge and celebrate not just the results, but also the effort and processes undertaken to achieve the desired outcomes. We share information, experiences and knowledge, and take time to share our successes and our gratitude with each other.
We believe in honesty and fairness, and we apply these values to our work. We hold ourselves responsible and accountable in delivering on our goals. We are consistent in our actions and behaviour, among both our staff and our partners. We stand behind and believe in our values, which provide guidance for all the work we do.
